For some time now when my husband comes home at night from work he has told us that he sees an albino possum. We are never sure about believing him but after quite a few sightings I thought there must be. Tonight when he came home he told us the possum was back and was sitting at the base of the tree so we all went outside to see if we could see him. He had gone back up into the tree and I was able to get a few photos. I believe they are quite rare and I am not sure if these are the same but there are some possums who are referred to as golden possums. I think he may feel safe in our yard and that is why he has stuck around for so long. Anyway he/she really is quite wonderful don't you think!

We also have an albino possum that appears in our backyard tree every night. I'm worried about his safety as the house next door (where I suspect he lives) is soon to be demolished.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if they are in fact rare?
I am not 100% sure that they are but anything I could find referrinig to them on the internet described them as such...
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll contact Melb Zoo. If not rare I might create a nesting box for it anyway.(marked "albino only" for the sake of out anti-possum neighybours)
ReplyDeleteYes I had been thinking of contacting Healesville Sanctuary to check with them.
ReplyDeleteAmazing captures!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic Dawn! I'm sure they are very rare. I wonder if you'll hear from Anonymous again to see what Melbourne Zoo said.
ReplyDeleteHello Di
ReplyDeleteI was driving down the Yarra Boulevard last Wednesday night & saw an albino possum on the grass, about to run up a tree. Very exciting to see for the first time. Beautiful. I'm sorry I didn't get a photo myself!

We have just discovered that we also have a Albino Possum in our backyard we are at day 2 of seeing him, he is just georgous and has taken to our bottle brush tree, we would really like to know though if there are indeed rare to see
ReplyDeleteWe live in Kenosha, WI and found that we have an "albino Possum" that wanders our neighborhood. At first I thought I was crazy, until I went outside an actually seen it myself. My husband thought I was "NUTS", until he seen it 2 nights ago in our neighbors front yard. Does anyone know if they are rare in South Eastern WI, USA?
